Abstract

The article presents a theoretical discussion about the importance of feminism as a fundamental political force in the search for equality in gender relations and in confronting the violence suffered by women in the current Brazilian scenario. To this end, we initially take as our horizon the importance of feminist struggles to discuss the issue of the supposed end of feminism and its reconfiguration. In the sequence, we bring a brief history of the feminist waves, highlighting their objects of study and claims. In this debate we also try to give visibility to the issue of women's rights violation, since they are the majority of people who suffer gender violence in our country. Finally, we observe that, in a moment of political setbacks in which many social conquests in the field of women's rights are under threat, the relevance of this debate is related to the problematization of some aspects of women's struggle for the enforcement and maintenance of rights.

Keywords: Feminism. Feminist waves. Women's rights. Social justice. Gender violence.
