Contributions of Museu da Natureza, Piauí, Brazil, to the training of rural educators

Science museums can contribute in a unique way to the initial and continuing teacher training. In this work, the Museu da Natureza stands out, opened in 2018 by the Fundação do Museu do Homem Americano and located next to the Serra da Capivara National Park, in Coronel José Dias, Piauí, Brazil. The objective of this article is to present the results of research into the contributions of Museu da Natureza in the teacher training of rural educators. It took place within the community time of the Geosciences discipline of the Degree Course in Rural Education, at Universidade Federal do Piauí. In the methodology, a Thematic Analysis of the visit reports of 29 undergraduate students was carried out. The results showed that the visit to the aforementioned museum contributed to providing practical, synesthetic and stimulating learning, with potential for the classroom; to promote contextualized education and to stimulate critical thinking, with emphasis on environmental education.
