Karen Blixen and the Colonialism

Abstract

This essay reflects on the main criticisms established towards the work "Out of Africa" (1937) by Danish writer Karen Blixen (1885-1962) and its implications for colonialism in African territories. In this way, we seek to confront different views on the relationship between the writer and the people she encountered during the period in which she managed a coffee farm in East Africa, currently known as Kenya. Therefore, we argue that the writer's writing and portrayal are situated in a complex interpretive field in relation to colonial institutions.
