Lutas sociais no sertão de Pernambuco: 1970/1983

Resumo

O artigo utiliza como referencial teórico concepções marxistas acerca do Estado e dos movimentos sociais, como base para a análise das mobilizações envolvendo trabalhadores rurais do sertão de Pernambuco, no período compreendido entre 1970 a 1983. Considerando a organização como elemento definidor dos movimentos sociais, o texto enfatiza o papel desempenhado pelos sindicatos rurais no processo de lutas que se desenvolve na região; Também são indicadas mudanças quanto às formas de luta e participação do campesinato, concluindo ser este segmento hegemônico ao nível de composição social e orientação dos sindicatos sertanejos. Observa, ainda, ser a questão da terra fator de união das várias categorias de trabalhadores, estando presente na maioria de suas reivindicações. This article adopts, as its theoretical reference point, Marxist conceptions of the state and social movements as a basis for the analysis of the mobilization of rural workers in the arid region of Pernambuco during the period from 1970 to 1983. Considering organization to be the characteristic feature of the social movements, the text emphasizes the part played by the rural labor unions in the struggles taking place in the region. The article also points out changes in the forms of struggle and participation of the peasantry, concluding that the latter represent the hegemonic segment as regards social composition and orientation of the arid region’s labor union. It observes, in addition, that the land question is a unifying factor for the various categories of workers, being present in the majority of their demands.
