A mulher idosa da Vila de Santa Luzia: um ensaio sobre identidades e representações sociais

Esse artigo é fruto de um estudo sobre o impacto das representações sociais acerca da velhice, vigentes em uma comunidade da periferia recifense – a Vila de Santa Luzia, no bairro da Torre –, e nele optou-se por uma escuta e um olhar transdisciplinares, no intuito de melhor apreendê-las no discurso e no modo como suas mulheres, a partir da maturidade, representavam e/ou atuavam a velhice. Nesse sentido, foram abstraídas quatro significações que se constituíam como referenciais identitários ao envelhecimento daquelas mulheres: a significação diacrônica, onde surge a imagem da mulher que desliza no tempo, por intermédio de sua memória; a significação ocupacional, em que predomina o retrato da mulher sem trabalho e/ou fonte de renda; a significação somática, que remete à idéia da mulher doente e cansada; e, finalmente, a significação relacional, que apresenta a figura da mulher só e desamparada, afastada do convívio familiar. Tais representações, observáveis em seu cotidiano, refletiriam, portanto, os clichês sobre a velhice feminina presentes no imaginário social daquela comunidade, que provavelmente se repetiriam ao longo da sucessão de gerações, servindo, por exemplo, tanto como justificativas ao seu afastamento do mercado de trabalho, quanto como referencial identitário, lugar de onde tais mulheres extrairiam modelos de conduta para o sistema consuetudinário. This article focuses on the social representations of elderly women from a poor community in the city of Recife. The community is know as Vila de Santa Luzia and is located on a middle class neighborhood by the name of Torre. The analysis was based on a “transdisciplinary” view and explores the discourse and the way the elderly women represented themselves and acted as they grow older. Four categories, therefore, were utilized so that the analysis of the identity referential could be possible: a diachronic category, in which the image of the women under investigation is analyzed considering a time frame; an occupational category, in which the unemployment situation of the women is taken into account; a somatic category, which considers the idea of illness and tiredness as important to the understanding of the women in everyday life, reflected clichés about female aging present in their world view. Such a situation will probably be perpetuated in future generations, functioning, for example, as justification for keeping them out of the working market as well as identity referential, the place from where those women behave in the consensual system.
