País e região: desigualdades e preconceitos regionais no Brasil

País plural, o Brasil é, sobretudo, desigual e permeado de preconceitos de suas regiões meridionais em relação às setentrionais. Este é um fenômeno aguçado pelas disparidades geográficas de níveis de renda, cuja intensidade é um dado da realidade brasileira, levando a que no norte do país se tenha formado a crença numa “conspiração” do sul mais desenvolvido para apoiar sua riqueza na exploração dos nortistas, especialmente dos nordestinos. Por conta disso, existe hoje um tipo de sentimento regional que faz pensar no separatismo. A canção Nordeste Independente representa neste particular uma manifestação da alma nordestina, apesar do cunho não-irredentista da música. De qualquer forma, ela tem raízes no que pensa boa parte da população do Nordeste. Uma tentativa de exame da questão é feita com base em 36 questionários respondidos por pessoas da elite intelectual brasileira (32 dos entrevistados são do Nordeste), tocando nos temas da questão regional, da heterogeneidade do país e do sentimento separatista. Fica evidente que inexiste uma onda de separatismo nordestino, mas não se pode esconder a insatisfação regional em face dos desequilíbrios entre regiões que o país apresenta. Brazil is unequivocally a plural country with many inequalities and forms of prejudice from the southern regions in relation to the northern ones. This is a phenomenon aggravated by geographical disparities of income levels, whose intensity is a given of the Brazilian reality. This leads in turn to a belief in the North of the country that there exists a “conspiracy” in the more developed south to sustain its wealth on the exploitation of northern people, especially the Nordestinos. Because of that, there is today a kind of regional sentiment that raises the issue of separatism within Brazil. In this connection, the song Nordeste Independente (Independent Northeast) represents a manifestation of northeastern frustrations, in spite of its nonrevolutiopnary character. Anyway, its roots go deep in what a good portion of the northeastern population feels. An attempt is made here to examine that problem using 36 questionnaires responded by individuals from the Brazilian intellectual élite (32 of them being from the Northeast) touching upon some issues from the so called regional question, as well as from the country´s heterogeneity and the separatist feeling. It is evident from the data that there does not exist a northeastern separatist wave; however, the regional dissatisfaction concerning the various disequilibria between the country´s regions cannot be hidden.
